Bright Red Hope

Psalm 10:17-18
The victim’s faint pulse picks up;
the hearts of the hopeless pump red blood
as you put your ear to their lips.
Orphans get parents,
the homeless get homes.
The reign of terror is over,
the rule of the gang lords is ended.

Reading these verses I get a picture of God, the creator of the universe, leaning over a spent life…His ear to their lips…looking for signs of life…a breath of hope. God loves to give our lives CPR! He loves to revive us and replace and rebuild what is stolen from us. The verse above says the orphans get parents.  Well, maybe you have parents but they didn’t nurture you or were not present in your life; God wants to be your parent. The verse above says the homeless get homes. Maybe you have a structure you live in called a house but it’s not a home.  Maybe your family is broken and in pain, maybe your marriage is empty and there is division; instead of a “safe haven” your house is a shelter where its’ tenants pass each other silently in the halls. God can turn your house into a home, not perfect, but filled with light and love and laughter…a place of joy instead of a pressure cooker. The last part says the rule of the gang lords is over. Who or what rules in your life? What are the deepest motives behind the choices you make?  If you are willing to take a very honest look at your heart and motives you will find the answer. If you find anyone but God there He is ready to end the reign of anything/one that holds you back from Him.

God is love and there is freedom in His love…freedom from the past, from condemnation, freedom to recover, to be yourself, freedom to live your life in expectation and trust in what your Creator plans for you each day. The Bible says God cares about every detail of your life. He cares about you…your hopes, dreams, marriage, children, job, health, talent, money, motives, friends, free time, and on and on! The sad thing is that so many people think of God and being a Christian as God’s way of hemming a person in; keeping you inside the lines of “do this but don’t do that.” God wants to revive you so you can be free to live an incredible life with hope, trust, love and joy.  As you read this post perhaps you will sense His ear to your lips…He’s waiting for your whisper…tell Him all that’s in your heart and let it begin to pump bright, red hope.
