With All He’s Got

Psalm 33:16-22 (the message)
No King succeeds with a big army alone,
no warrior wins by brute strength.
Horsepower is not the answer;
no one gets by on muscle alone.

Watch this:  God’s eye is on those who respect him,
the ones who are looking for his love.
He’s ready to come to their rescue in bad times;
in lean times he keeps body and soul together.

We’re depending on God;
he’s everything we need.
What’s more, our hearts brim with joy
since we’ve taken for our own his holy name.
Love us, God, with all you’ve got–
that’s what we’re depending on.

We cannot truly succeed in life or win our battles in our own strength!  I love the verses above…it’s not a big army, brute strength, horsepower or muscle alone that brings victory…or you could say  it’s not our intellect, our abilities or even our will power that will see us through hard times.

If we are looking for God’s love in our lives, if we respect that He is in fact this Great Creator-God who formed all we see by a spoken word…if we believe in our hearts that He is good and we are longing and looking for His love then we know from this scripture He has His eye on us.  He is ready to rescue us, to keep us together in “lean” times.  In the end, the question is what are we depending on?  God certainly gives each of us strengths in our personalities and I believe He wants to see us use them wisely.  But do we depend on our own abilities, intellect or sheer will to get things done?  Do we have the idea that in the end it is our own “horsepower” that will bring us victory?  What if we look at it this way…God gives each of us talents, abilities, and strengths but He wants us to depend on His love to come in and be the force that moves through what He has given us.  When we depend on God’s love we know that in His love is everything we need, so we don’t have to worry that we will run out of our own steam or ability to handle adversity or even the daily responsibilities of  life.  As we depend on God’s love it takes the pressure off and our hearts are open to be filled with joy.  The last line of this scripture says “Love us, God, with all you’ve got–that’s what we’re depending on.”  In my mind I see God smiling a big smile at that kind of prayer!  Asking God to love us with all He’s got…a prayer He will always answer and oh how it will change our lives when in fact His love is all we are depending on!
