Acts 18:23 (the message)
After spending a considerable time with the Antioch Christians, Paul set off again for Galatia and Phrygia, retracing his old tracks, one town after another, putting fresh heart into the disciples.
I haven’t felt well over the past couple of days, but as I determined to read a bit this morning this verse caught my attention. The apostle Paul traveled from one town to the next making Jesus known as the Messiah, or savior, of all. In the verse above he is retracing his steps to put some “fresh heart” into the followers of Jesus.
I felt encouraged that God knows we have times in our lives when we need an infusion of fresh heart. God knows that we are human. He knows we have times when we begin to feel worn out with the business of life. God knows there are times when we are so hurt by people or circumstances we want to hide our hearts. And God also knows about the times when we aren’t even sure what to think of Him. So much of our understanding and the way we relate to God can be influenced by our upbringing. We learn at very early ages whether or not it is safe to trust. Sadly, for some of us the lesson is hard-learned and we don’t truly trust anyone…even God.
Wherever you find yourself today, I would like to encourage you that God sees you. He most certainly loves you. God loves you like the Father you may have only dreamed of having. He thinks you’re beautiful. He smiles at your personality quirks and you bring Him joy. There may be barriers in your life that prevent you from believing that. There may be sin that is polluting your ability to clearly hear Him. There may be pain and disappointment that has left you unwilling to open your heart…even to your Creator. My prayer for you today is that you will let this idea take hold in your life…Jesus can give you “fresh heart.” He can heal your life. He can rebuild all the broken pieces of your marriage, your relationships, your finances, your health, your dreams. He absolutely can.
Step by step…day by day…in the amazing safety of His love. If you hear Him whisper to your heart this is for you…then take the step of believing Him. Jesus will show you what comes next.
