The Safest Place

Micah 7:18-20 (the message)
Where is the god who can compare with you —
wiping the slate clean of guilt,
Turning a blind eye, a deaf ear,
to the past sins of your purged and precious people?
You don’t nurse your anger and don’t stay angry long,
for mercy is your specialty. That’s what you love most.
And compassion is on its way to us.
    You’ll stamp out our wrongdoing.
You’ll sink our sins
to the bottom of the ocean.
You’ll stay true to your word to Father Jacob
and continue the compassion you showed Grandfather Abraham —
Everything you promised our ancestors
    from a long time ago.

Slate Cleaner
Sin Forgiver
Past Forgetter
Mercy Giver
Compassion Spreader
Truth Teller
Promise Keeper
Incomparable Lover

Help us see who You are…as we begin a new day, as we pause in the midst of our daily chaos, as we lay our heads down at the close of the day..give us a glimpse of who You are.  Our minds cannot perceive or grasp the magnitude of Your love.  Even as I type I realize my human mind and heart cannot begin to understand Your grace…Your mercy…Your unconditional love.  You are not a God aloof, standing afar, from Your Creation…You not only allow us to come close, You invite us.  Only deep within, in places only Your Spirit can touch, can I recognize and yield to this overwhelming need for my Creator’s Love.  I read about and think on this idea that really it is not You who is invited into our story…it is us…we are invited to be a part of Your story.  You are the Imagineer, the Creator, the Artist, the Storyteller.  It all began with Your Word…You spoke life into existence.  You see the panorama of the human story.  And you know each of us by  name…talley daily the number of hairs on our heads.  You see when we sit down and when we get up…no, we are not the masters of our fate, pen in hand to write our story inviting You to join us.  Naively we may think so, but all we see is Yours.  All we have is Yours.  All we are belongs to You.  Help us to find our part in Your story…Your love…Your grace…Your rest.  Cause the longing for Your love deep within us to become the most unbearable need until we let You fill us.  Until we, too, can ask who can compare with You?  Until we know, for sure despite our finite minds, that our slate is wiped clean with the red blood of Creator spilled on Calvary.  Until we are convinced that mercy is indeed what You love the most…more than anger, more than retribution,  more than what seems fair even…You delight in giving Mercy…we need not hope for it, beg for it or hold our breath…You long to rain down mercy, blow hurricane force winds of compassion against our fear and make room in our human hearts for Your supernatural love.  You stay true to Your Word, this love and grace and compassion and mercy, not because of what we have to offer or what we are able to prove.  You are who You are, You keep Your promises and take delight in being with us, because it pleases You to do so.

You take delight in being with us.  It is safe to believe You.  Help us hand over our hearts to You today, God.  Every dream.  Every hope.  Every fear.  Every sin.  Every regret.  Every hurt.  Every disappointment.  Every joy.  Every achievement.  Every accolade.  Every failure.  Every resentment.  Every question.  Every need.  Every insecurity.  Every seemingly insurmountable issue.  Every addiction.  Every single thing we have hoped for and pursued believing it would fill us and bring us peace and stability in our minds and emotions.

Help us give ourselves to You in genuine and honest ways.  Taking nervous baby steps toward You only to find You running, leaps and bounds, toward us with arms wide open.

The safest place.
