My Uncle Richard and Aunt Evelyn send a daily email called “A Thought For Today.” This is what it said today:
“Be gentle with yourself and others.”
As I make my lunch of angel hair and sauce from a jar, these words roll back over my heart. You know why we so often can’t be gentle with others? Because we don’t know how to be gentle with ourselves. See, I long to be a more gentle person but what if I must begin with me? Kind of like first receiving God’s love into my own heart before I can give it away. Only being able to give to others what I have.
Maybe today we can all give ourselves permission to be bit kinder to ourselves. A bit more gentle with our own faults and imperfections. And maybe then we will find a way to let gentle grace flow more freely.
